resting metabolic rate [RMR]

A metabolic rate measured at rest.

It differs from basal metabolic rate in that it is the indicator measured in practice (scientific experiments), whereas the latter requires ‘perfect’ conditions. In concrete terms, RMR is 5-20% higher than BMR.

It should be noted that it can also be estimated from a formula involving age, sex, stature, and body mass (sometimes also body fat percentage).
