Energy spent for a given duration of physical activity.
It can be estimated by multiplying resting energy expenditure with Metabolic Equivalent of Task (or basal energy expenditure and physical activity ratio).
A distinction can be made by:
- activity intensity, between sedentary energy expenditure and active energy expenditure
- purpose, between exercise energy expenditure and non-exercise energy expenditure
It should be noted that, for explanatory purposes, basal energy expenditure may be separated.
