diet

Food usually consumed.

It often implies a selection of certain kinds of food for cultural, ideologic (animal welfare & ecology) or religious reasons but also for health.

E.g.: omnivorous, Mediterranean, flexitarian (including pescetarian & pollotarian), vegetarian (including ovo/lacto/ovo-lacto vegetarian & vegan), paleo, halal, kosher, but also keto, DASH, or MIND…

It should be noted that the term is from the Greek díaita, “way of life”.

A strict approach with an objective in mind is sometimes called a dietary regimen.

Not to be confused with calorie restriction nor intermittent fasting.
